Site member Wondermann posted this on his super cool blog the other day, but it’s taken me a couple of days just to process the enormity of it. Jane Badler is joining the cast of V this fall! I really feel like I should take full credit for this, and I’ll tell you why. In every review, post, Tweet and quip about V for the past two years, I have mentioned Jane and my desire to see her return to her alien megabitch roots. Like Madonna once said, “If you want something bad enough, the whole universe will conspire to help you get it.” So, you know, yay!
“When V returns, we will learn that Anna (Morena Baccarin) is keeping her mother prisoner on the mother ship in a never-before-seen section that has been designed to look like the Visitors’ home planet. Still stunningly beautiful at age 56, Jane’s Diana, who will be a recurring character, is perhaps the only reptilian being who will be able to put Anna in her place.”
Yeah, no kidding, TVGuide. As Diana in the original V, Jane was sublime. Gorgeous, powerful and evil to the core, she helped define a decade full of strong women in sci-fi. The producers of the new show are extremely smart to bring her back. Here’s hoping they use her to her full potential. As abusive as Anna is to Lisa, I can’t wait to see what Diana is like as a mum and gran. If you’re fuzzy on the awesomeness that is Jane Badler, just check out this clip from V: The Final Battle:
Diana was always very good at shooting people in the shoulder, then giving them a speech, before finishing them off. Truly, truly inspiring. If I ever became the ruthless leader of an invading army of bloodthirsty aliens, I’m totally going to use that trick. Welcome back, Jane! See you in November!
