Every year, GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) holds an awards ceremony to honor and recognize the media for outstanding representations of the LGBT community. Nominations for the 21st Annual Media Awards were announced today, and here are some fanboy-related highlights:
Outstanding Comic Book
Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Jane Espenson, Steven S. DeKnight, Drew Z. Greenberg, Jim Krueger, Doug Petrie, Joss Whedon (Dark Horse Comics)
Detective Comics by Greg Rucka (DC Comics)
Madame Xanadu by Matt Wagner (Vertigo/DC Comics)
Secret Six by Gail Simone (DC Comics)
X-Factor by Peter David (Marvel Comics)
Wow! That’s a tough category! I think it comes down to Rucka and Simone, though, with the edge going to Rucka. I love both titles and both writers, though. Maybe it’ll be a tie.
True Blood and Skins were both nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, while Torchwood: Children of Earth was nominated for Outstanding Mini-Series. Of all those, only Skins didn’t make me want to throw my television out the window, so that’s who I’m rooting for.
