Nothing snaps me out of a drunken stupor faster than Dark Knight casting news! Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan issued a press release this morning, announcing that Anne Hathaway has won the role of everyone’s favorite sex kitten/sex cat burglar: Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman). The press release doesn’t actually mention Catwoman by name, though, just Selina. So, take that for whatever it’s worth.
Nolan said, in typical PR speak, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”
Meanwhile, Anne said, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to have Christian Bale yell at me and make me cry!” Actually, I made that one up. Still, I’m sure she’s happy to put all her award-nominated roles behind her and follow in the footsteps of Halle Berry.
Nolan also confirmed that Tom Hardy will be playing Bane, everyone’s favorite muscle-bound Secret Six-er, who does his best thinking while naked. “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies,” Nolan enthused. “And by ‘new interpretation,’ I mean ‘openly gay.’”
Ha! Sorry, I made up that last part, too. Bane is a fine choice, of course, but wouldn’t it have been fun to have the Bat, the Cat and the Penguin back together again?
The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20, 2012.
