Funny, isn’t it? The search for an actress to play Wonder Woman on the big screen was going to span the globe and take years, but the search for the lead for the new TV series took…oh…15 minutes. So, who will be donning the iconic Members Only jacket and black leggings?
Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights, Legion, Supernatural) will be playing Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in the new David E. Kelley series. The series pilot is reported to be a reinvention of the DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman is a “vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles, but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life.”

I tried to imagine them describing Bruce Wayne as a “vigilante crime fighter in Gotham, but also a successful corporate executive and a modern man trying to balance all of the elements of his extraordinary life.” Okay, it sort of works.
I think it’s safe to assume that Wonder Woman’s “extraordinary life” will also include a lot of boy problems. (Which works for the Batman scenario, too.) If we’ve learned anything from David E. Kelley, it’s that successful, beautiful and impossibly thin women have the hardest time finding boyfriends. I’m unfamiliar with the work of Ms. Palicki, so I can’t really speculate on how appropriate she is as a casting choice. However, I wish her well and look forward to her future appearances at gay pride festivals for years to come.
