Honestly, I was worried. Really. I feel like DC has been itching to kill Dick Grayson for years, just looking for the right time to strike. So when DC announced earlier that Bruce Wayne would be returning to all the Batman titles with September’s re-launch/re-boot of the DC Universe, I was worried they might have finally found their opportunity to kill off the original Boy Wonder. So, imagine my surprise (and relief) when I read the following announcement over on the DC blogs:
“After a tenure as the Batman of Gotham, Dick Grayson resumes his mantle as Nightwing! As Dick embraces his identity, Haley’s Circus, the big top where he once performed with his family, returns to Gotham – bringing with it a history of murder, mystery and superhuman evil. Nightwing must confront friends and enemies from his past as he searches for the source of an even greater evil. NIGHTWING will be written by Kyle Higgins with art duties handled by fan-favorite Eddy Barrows.”
Eddy Barrows has done some nice work on Teen Titans and Superman. He’s especially good with Conner Kent. But…and this is a big but(t)…can he handle the most celebrated ass in comics? I’m certainly willing to give him a shot. Hopefully, Dick is in good hands.
