I’m in a gay quandary. Are these new Mattel Barbie dolls based on Speed Racer fabulous or ridiculous? When I first saw them, I groaned and almost clicked back to my search for Flash Gordon figures. But then I took a closer look, and the tailoring of their clothes is really good. And I love the expression on Trixie’s face. And all that leather and the red ascot on Speed are kind of hot. It’s one of those times where “This is so gay” could go either way in terms of being a negative comment or a positive one. Since I don’t like using the word gay in any sort of negative way, I think I’m leaning towards fabulous. Will I get them? No. But I will not stop anyone else from getting them, either.
