Be a Freedom Fighter: Protest Prop 8 This Weekend

“It is a dark time for the Rebellion. Although the Death Star has been destroyed, Imperial troops have driven the Rebel forces from their hidden base and pursued them across the galaxy…”

It’s been a roller coaster of emotions the past few days. Though the country jubilantly boarded the change train and headed off into the sunset, gays and lesbians were pointedly left behind. Voters in California decided to approve the inclusion of discrimination into the state constitution, repealing the right of gays to marry. I suppose 52% of voters thought we’d go quietly into the night, but the outrage and protests have grown and the battle is far from over. Gays in other states have told me it’s not their battle, that it doesn’t concern them. But what happens when it is your state? What happens when religious and political organizations outside of your state pour millions of dollars into a local campaign targeting you and those you love? The outrage over the injustice of Proposition 8 in California, as well as anti-gay resolutions just passed in Arizona, Florida and Arkansas, has spread across the country. This weekend, you can let the world know you’re not going to go quietly away, stripped of your rights as an American and as a human being.

On Saturday, November 15, protests are scheduled in every state of the nation. Go to www.jointheimpact.com or go directly to this page to find the protest location nearest you. I will be heading to the courthouse in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday. Please, gather your friends and family and supporters and let your voice be heard. Let the world know you are not a second-class citizen, you deserve equal rights and discrimination must end now!

Be a freedom fighter. Good luck and thank you!
