“Serenity” Now!

Just when the pain of losing Firefly was beginning to subside, they had to go and rub salt in the wound. MTV is reporting that actor/comedian Patton Oswalt (of all people) has written a one-shot comic spin-off of the Firefly feature film Serenity, called Serenity: Float Out. Float Out will pick up where the 2005 film left off, but may or may not feature the main characters from the series and movie.

Apparently, Oswalt is a huge fan of Firefly and has penned a tribute to Wash, Alan Tudyk‘s lovable, but doomed character. “Post-Serenity, a bunch of Wash’s friends who we haven’t met on the show, they’re basically buying a new ship and christening it,” said Oswalt of the comic’s plot. “It’s called a ‘float-out’ when you christen a ship. As they’re christening a new ship, they’re telling stories about Wash, and we’re basically seeing what could be the start of a new adventure.”

Written by Oswalt with art by Patric Reynolds and a cover by Buffy favorite Jo Chen, Float Out hits shelves June 2 from Dark Horse Comics.

So, what do you think? Are you on board for more adventures from the Firefly universe, even if it features all new characters? Like Love Boat: The Next Wave?
