FBOTU SIte Members Raise $500 for Prism’s Queer Press Grant

I like starting a holiday weekend with great news! I am ridiculously pleased to announce that with your help and through the sale of the 2011 Fanboy of the Month Calendar, we have raised over $500 to benefit the Queer Press Grant! As you probably know by now, the grant is awarded annually to assist independent LGBT comic book creators with their work and—let’s face it—realize their dreams!

A lot of my friends and colleagues donated their time and talent so we could keep the cost of the calendar down, so we could sell more of them, and so we could give more money to the QPG. I just want to thank all the people who made that possible: Jeremy and Tony and Tas and all the FBOTMs and especially Long-Suffering Boyfriend Michael who did all the design work during a period when he really had no time for my silliness. I am indebted to you all.

Since starting the site, I’ve been very fortunate to have access to the LGBT community of comics creators, including former and recent QPG recipients. Each and every one I’ve talked to recognizes the grant as a turning point in their work, whether it was from the support and feedback they received, the increased visibility or the publication of their comics. So, I’m very happy that we (that includes you) got to contribute something to the goals of the grant and, ultimately, the success of the next LGBT creator out there.

So, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart, for buying the calendar and making this donation possible.

A check will be presented to Prism Comics to benefit the Queer Press Grant at—where else?—a comic book convention! Yes! We’ll be at Emerald City Comicon, March 4-6 in Seattle, WA.

Finally, you can always donate to the Queer Press Grant any time at PrismComics.org or on Facebook Causes.

Thanks again!
