Help Keep Comic-Con Gay

I’m putting my usual glib and goofy demeanor aside for a moment to talk cold, hard facts. San Diego Comic-Con needs an LGBTQ presence, now more than ever. Booth space and expenses at SDCC aren’t cheap. The independent artists and creators who appear at the Prism Comics booth are paying to be there. Do you see where I’m going with this? Prism Comics has started a Kickstarter campaign to help subsidize the booth expenses for participating artists and creators. The goal is only $1,000. I say “only,” because I figure if I can get 1,000 people to donate $1 each, then we’re set. Of course, if you can give more, that would be totally awesome of you.

Now, watch this video and look into the sad, sad eyes of comic book creator and FBOTU contributor Brian Andersen, then head to the Kickstarter page to see the full list of benefits and prizes available for people who donate!

They totally need a Sarah McLachlan song playing in the background of that video. In the interest of full disclosure, Fanboys of the Universe is also scheduled to be a booth partner at the Prism Comics booth this year. So, I, myself, will benefit directly from your generosity. While I’m not an artist, nor creator, I am a groupie…and comic relief. Plus, when people feel nervous about approaching the booth, they tend to talk to me first, because I’m so warm and approachable and generally non-threatening. And with me there, you’ll have a virtual front-row seat to all the gay happenings at Comic-Con! (Plus, lots of pics of guys in spandex.)

Are you convinced yet? I hope so. And I thank you for your generous support. Here’s the link again to the Kickstarter page. See you in San Diego!
